The fool says in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.
(Psalm 53: 1)
Italian writer Carlo Collodi is the author of the story of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet in the form of a boy. In the literary story, Pinocchio was made by Geppetto, a poor carpenter who loved Pinocchio as if he were his own son. However, Pinocchio was often naughty and disobedient to Geppetto. One day, Pinocchio was persuaded to accompany his friend to Pleasure Island, where the children there seemed to be able to do whatever they wanted without any consequences. However, it turned out that over time, every child who just wanted to have fun without wanting to study or work immediately turned into a donkey. After becoming a donkey, Pinocchio was sold to the circus. There, he had to work very hard and painfully. He then realized and regretted his actions so far.
Seniors, like Pinocchio, our awareness of something is often so late. We assume that there will never be consequences for our actions, and therefore we continue to make mistakes and crimes. For the Psalmist, we are nothing more than fools who often think there is no God so that they are not afraid of the consequences of our actions.
Senior, let’s do what is good that we should do while we are alive. That way, we will not be late in realizing and regretting ourselves in the future.
Prayer:
Lord, may we always be aware of every consequence of our actions. Amen.
