The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.
Psalm 119: 72
A young man was tasked with fetching water from a river every day. He used an old, leaky bucket. Each time he traveled, water dripped from the bucket, leaving him with only half a bucket. He felt his work was in vain. One day, he passed a familiar path and was amazed. It turned out that along the route where the water he carried dripped daily, various beautiful flowers had grown.
The Word of God in the Bible is a lamp and a light for our path in life. Some people think that listening to God’s Word is a futile endeavor. However, even the Psalmist acknowledged that God’s Word is more precious than gold and silver. Diligently reading and meditating on God’s Word is not a futile endeavor. Believe me, when the Word falls on fertile soil, it will one day grow and flourish. Especially when we feel weak and helpless, the Word that grows in our hearts and minds will strengthen us. In this way, we increasingly experience God’s help through His Word.
Prayer:
Father, we realize how precious Your Word is in our lives. Especially in these twilight years, we need Your light so that our path in life will be in accordance with Your will. In Christ, we ask. Amen.
